Criticism, confidence, and self-development. How to use criticism to increase confidence

Criticism as an opportunity for personal development and building confidence

When we face or think we face, criticism from others, we may all become upset or frustrated. However, from certain perspectives, we shouldn’t…This short video extract (The Hours 2002) could serve as a catalyst for reflection on how we can use other people’s criticisms, and opinions of us to our advantage.

To continue, please watch the video:

The practice of first listening to others regardless of whether their motives appear dark or perfect, intelligent or foolish, or convey negative energy, may trigger introspection and connect us to ourselves in a real way. If we could pause for a moment and reflect, think, and FEEL about our situation and ask ourselves: “Well?… Do you? Tell me…”, the possibility is given to gain mental and emotional clarity or regain your inner calmness and confidence if temporarily shaken by others.

If you think it is true you may become aware of a repressed or confusing situation and do something about it. If it is not, then you cannot be shaken by criticism, you may easily ignore it without any emotional cost. If it is not true, you may also get a better idea of others’ motives, projections, or weaknesses.

Criticism can work in our favor as an opportunity to gain clarity and awareness, all important aspects of self-confidence and well-being. Through it, we can repair mistakes or learn from them. We can then make choices that stem from our hearts and real needs.

Once clarity and confidence have been gained…the only opinion that matters is yours…!
