How Poetry helps
Charles Bukowski said: Genius is the ability to say profound things in a simple way.
Isn’t it what poetry is all about? Conciseness, meaning, emotions. Deeply human, awakening the mind and touching the heart.
Today we celebrate Poetry Day through one of our favorite poets, Nikos Engonopoulos.
We chose an extract from a poem that refers to hope and desperation and to his view regarding the stance of life of a dignified person that is able to see and appreciate the beauty in life.
“Can, I wonder, the bully’s wild eye appreciate the harmony of the roses?
No – no, the world cannot be improved by endless moralizing.
Hope, always hope, that among people who’ve let convenience ruin them, you’ll eventually encounter delicate souls with gracious manners…”

Art can function as an opportunity to explore the human condition and through our response to artistic works, we may identify unknown or hidden aspects of ourselves.
SHARE LV through the Arts Forums offers its members the opportunity to discuss ideas, thoughts, and feelings triggered by poems, paintings, music, movies, or other forms of art with other members. Why a particular piece of art was so touching? Is there any desire to be identified behind those feelings?
Art (and in many cases science) encompasses the vision of beauty, fulfillment, and of a better future, and therefore can assist us in defining our dreams and our core values.

In our Library in the Psychology/Arts section, you can also find numerous articles inspired by great works of art. You can also use the tags poetry and art for personal growth and development.
We offer to our members selected pieces and at the same time, brief and intelligent analysis of those pieces. By doing so, we aspire to remove obstacles to understanding and to a more meaningful and personal connection with them. Analysis can make even more pleasurable contact with the work of great artists and thinkers, who have done most to show us their views on what it is to be human and to make sense of our world.
